Household Hazardous Waste Event on 6/21 at Pasadena’s Rose Bowl

We encourage you to check out this coming Saturday’s Household Hazardous Waste Event on June 21, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pasadena Rose Bowl, Parking Lot K. Sponsored jointly by the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts and the Department of Public Works.  The Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Program  gives Los Angeles County residents a legal and cost free way to dispose of unwanted household chemicals that cannot be disposed of in the regular trash.


  • Motor Oil, Antifreeze, Paint, Paint Thinner.
  • Turpentine, Cleaners with Acids or Lye.
  • Pesticides and Herbicides.
  • Household and Car Batteries.
  • Old Computers and Television Sets.
  • Sharps or Used Needles.
  • Expired Pharmaceuticals and Mercury Thermometers.


  • Explosives, Ammunition or Radioactive materials.
  • Waste from Businesses will NOT be accepted.
  • Trash or Old Tires.
  • White Goods such as Washers, Stoves, Refrigerators or Air Conditioners.


  • In general there is a limit of 15 gallons or 125 lbs. per vehicle.
  • Bring items in a sturdy box, preferably in their original labeled containers.
  • Be prepared to leave your containers.
  • Do not mix products together.


Altadena’s St. Elizabeth’s Parish Fiesta is this Weekend

  • May 30, Friday  from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • May 31, Saturday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • June 1, Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

About: St. Elizabeth School is a Catholic parish school of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church in Altadena serving Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade. Founded in 1919, the school, within a diverse community, exists to serve and proclaim Christ, through a commitment to service, justice and peace. St. Elizabeth School and Parish is located at 1849 Lake Avenue, Altadena at the corner of Lake and Woodbury.

Come out this Sunday, June 1st for Aveson’s June Jubilee from  11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Farnsworth Park at 568 East Mountain Curve Avenue, Altadena, CA 91001. 

It’s going to be a great day for the family with games, crafts, cool marketplace vendors, yummy food and live music!  Admission is free.

Come out to the South Pasadena Fun Fair on May 17 and 18

Please join us in supporting three local South Pasadena elementary schools (Arroyo Vista, Marengo and Monterey Hills) and the essential programs they offer.  Come out to the 17th Annual South Pasadena Fun Fair on Saturday and Sunday, May 17th and May 18th at the South Pasadena School District Parking Lot at 1020 El Centro, South Pasadena, CA.   Enjoy live entertainment, giant rides, a selection of food truck options, treats, and lots of games and prizes.

Sierra Madre Art Festival May 3 & 4

Friends of the Sierra Madre Library will be hosting the 52nd Annual Art Fair at Memorial Park (at Sierra Madre Boulevard and Hermosa Avenue) in the charming village of Sierra Madre.

The two-day, widely publicized event offers artists a chance to show and sell their work. To enhance the Fair for artists and customers, visitors have the opportunity to demonstrate their own creative techniques.  Food vendors will provide a selection of ethnic foods and entertainers will perform.


Event will be Saturday, May 3rd, from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday, May 4th, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m


Visit Six Museums for Free on May 18

It is the 25th anniversary of Museums of the Arroyo Day on Sunday, May 18, 2014. Visitors are invited to visit six local museums for free.  The Gamble House, Heritage Square Museum, the Los Angeles Police Museum, the Lummis Home, the Pasadena Museum of History, and the Autry’s Historic Southwest Museum are included.  The event runs from noon to 5 p.m.




Altadena’s Art on Palm is May 10

Art on Palm

Saturday, May 10, 2014 – 9:30 a.m. to  5:00 p.m.

1419 E. Palm St., Altadena

This one-day-only show and sale features ceramics, collage, drawings, fabric, glass, jewelry, paintings, photography and woodcarvings. The tree encircled setting for Art on Palm offers an inviting venue for guests and a stunning backdrop for the displays.

Art on Palm will help benefit the Creative Arts Group.  Artists will donate a portion of their sales to this non-profit organization. Creative Arts Group (CAG) was founded in 1960 by six couples to provide quality art experiences and instruction to augment the dwindling arts programs in public schools.

Parking is free and light refreshments will be available for sale.

Aveson Tree Planting and Dedication – 4/30

Come out and join your Aveson friends to celebrate Aveson’s gift of a new tree to Loma Alta Park! 

It’s next Wednesday, April 30, 6:00 p.m. at the Altadena Farmer’s Market at 600 West Palm Street., Altadena 91001

Aveson Performance Action Team kids will sing “Seasons of Love” and Kate Bean, Executive Director of Aveson Charter Schools  will be speaking.  Bring the flier above and get 10% off dinner at the Farmer’s Market hot food vendors!
